Actor, Playwright and Roleplayer
I first set foot on stage in 1977 in 'The Sound of Music' at Cambridge's famous ADC Theatre and forty five years later still find myself treading the boards most recently as Robert in my daughter Kattreya's debut full length play 'SNAILS FOR STARTERS'.
Since joining Equity in 2009 I am now no longer plain 'Stephen Smith' (although my plays published by Concord Theatricals are under this name) which is probably for the best and nice to acknowledge my Swiss mother.
Having written and directed plays since 1985 I formed theatre company BIG SQUIRREL in 2010 to present my plays at the Edinburgh Fringe as well as the Brighton and Camden Fringes and several venues in my hometown of Cambridge. I am now the proud father of twenty three plays, half of which have been published so far and performed worldwide. Full details and insights into all my plays are on my play page. Kattreya has now taken up the family playwriting mantle and I am privileged to have directed her very successful debut play 'UKE BELONG TO ME' on tour in 2017/18 which ended it's run at the Edinburgh Fringe and most recently two solo shows entitled 'LOVE, CATS & BILL MURRAY'. After our enforced eighteen month shutdown we now move into 2022 with SUPERELLA a brand new panto which I have co-written with Kattreya and will be directing.
Since 2000 I have been a professional roleplayer, mainly in medical roleplay but also with psychiatrists, vets, opticians, social services, pharmacists and many other professions that need communication skills training. In the corporate sector I have performed in numerous Murder Mysteries and Comedy Dining experiences throughout the UK.
On film I have played a variety of roles in many student and independent films. Being 6'3" I am often cast as baddies or authority figures but I have also played lots of comedy roles and like to think I'm pretty alright to work with!
So thank you for visiting my website, have a scroll through my plays, my showreel and learn more about 'Big Squirrel' and what's coming up in the world of Stephen Scheurer-Smith!
